Coaching for Teenagers

Could coaching be the answer?

While the adventure of growing up can be a wonderful and exciting time, teenagers and young adults can, at times, experience difficulties.

There are three possible approaches to help your teen move forward, grow confident, and increase their self-belief. Each has its own benefits and prices. Let me explain each option below so you can decide which approach would work best for your teenager.

Milestone Training and Coaching - online life coaching

1:1 Tailored Coaching Support

Dawn works 1:1 with teens on their confidence, struggles, and life challenges. The benefit of this approach is that it is totally tailored to an individual teenager’s issues and obstacles, it is not agenda driven, or a one size fits all approach, and accordingly, the young person often needs fewer sessions.

Coaching sessions can either be over Zoom or face-to-face, if you are based near Basingstoke, Hampshire. Each session costs £55, and it is you and your teenager, as the client, who decides how many sessions we have, how long the gaps are in between those sessions, and the issues that we cover. Coaching slots are available all sorts of hours to fit around school/college/university/work/ and family commitments - so during the day, some evenings, and some weekend slots.

Scroll down this page for full information on Coaching For Young People and how it could help your family.

Alternatively, if you would rather discuss this option to establish whether it could help your teenager, please feel free to call Dawn, without obligation, on 01256 389600.

An 8-Module E-Learning Life Skills & Confidence Programme

This program is very similar to the interactive Zoom 7-Week Course but with even more content. The appeal of this course for some teenagers who struggle with social anxiety or shyness is that there are no other participants and no pressure to get involved, put their cameras on, and speak up, whilst still gaining an extensive range of techniques and tools.

Instead, it is a downloadable program, with recordings of Dawn presenting and covering all of the topics and teaching tools, techniques, and strategies, via practical activities and tasks, science and research, examples, and real-life stories of many anonymous client experiences, or of her own. It is packed with practical steps to take, activities to do, tools to practice, and many other approaches. It is ideal for those for whom the timings of the 7-Week Course do not fit in with school, college, university timings, after-school activities, and family demands. Or for teenagers who are based outside of the UK and the time difference doesn’t permit the attendance of a workshop in person, then this is a fantastic solution.

The downloadable version can be undertaken at a time that works with their timetable, at their own pace, and in private. A parent could also take part alongside the teenager and therefore support their practice activities between modules (they may also learn many skills they too will benefit from).

This downloadable program can also be repeated as many times in the future as needed, particularly when life throws a new curveball at the young person, as it inevitably does, and they take a little dent in their confidence.

The cost of this Course is £99

Both online programs include, amongst other things, topics such as:

  • The influence of our mind over our performance.

  • Toxic thinking patterns, self-fulfilling patterns, choosing our mood.

  • The power of beliefs, how to become our own coach, and how to stop overthinking.

  • Anxiety - How to overcome anxiety and stress and feel calm and in control. How to sleep better.

  • How to stop worrying about what others might think of us, build inner resilience, and let things go.

  • How to free ourselves from our self-created prison and feel more able to take on new opportunities and push ourselves out of our comfort zones.

  • Techniques to improve our body language, communicate confidently, and use our voice for influence.

  • Resist victim mentality and thrive, the importance of good friendships and how to make them, and keep them, allow us to plan for a much brighter future.

A Group, Online, 7-Week Confidence & Life Skills Programme for Teens

This is an interactive workshop approach, via Zoom, with cameras and audio on, and the small group of participants sharing and getting involved.

The group size can vary but is deliberately kept small (typically between 4 and 8 participants) to keep the learning environment friendly and not too overwhelming for all involved.

The benefit of group work is not only learning tools and strategies from Dawn, but also hearing what other young people are struggling with, how they are feeling, how they are coping, and what they are learning, as they progress. Frequently participants feel reassured that they are not the only ones struggling, or feeling the way they have been, and watching the group as a whole progress and grow as techniques are covered and practiced, can be extremely motivating.

The cost of this course is £85

Amongst many other topics, the following areas are included:

The teenage years can be a strange and difficult time for the whole family. Teenagers begin to fight for their independence and parents fight to maintain control. The once stable and peaceful family dynamic can suddenly become a war zone.

Young people are confronted with a variety of tough issues as they navigate their way to adulthood, and learning how to deal with them can test their confidence, coping strategies, and resilience. It’s estimated that up to half of adolescents will struggle with low confidence levels during the teenage years and low confidence, anxiety, and poor self-esteem so frequently lead to under-performance, unpopularity, and significantly reduced happiness.

The good news is that confidence and self-esteem are a skill that can be learned at any age, in fact, the earlier the better because patterns established in childhood and adolescence can often last a lifetime. Gaining powerful psychological strategies and techniques will enable your teenager to believe in themselves, step into situations with confidence and not allow fear and self-doubt to hold them back. Imagine seeing your teenager at ease in their own skin, interacting with confidence with both peers and adults alike, trying new activities, talking to new people, and embracing all opportunities that come their way with total confidence. What kind of difference would this make to your teenager’s life, now and in the future?

Why one to one or group coaching could help?

The pressures on teenagers and young adults, and the expectations they have for themselves, as well as the pressures of fitting in, growing up, planning a future, passing exams, settling into university, or job seeking, can make it hard for them to cope.

Life Coach, Dawn Fiske, knows (as a mother of two teenage sons) that it is natural to worry about your teenage child or young adult. You may wonder if they are happy and hope they are doing well at school, college, university or job seeking. You take comfort in the idea of them having a nice group of friends to support them through the journey. But what if they don't, what if they are alone?

Dawn has been helping teenagers and young people develop life skills and confidence and learn how to manage some of the stresses that come along the way for over 18 years. Working in schools running small group ‘Confidence & Life Skills’ Programs, and working individually with many one-to-one teenage clients, she specialises in providing an impartial source of support who can listen and understand the challenges your teenager is facing. She encourages personal development in young people while providing a safe outlet for their stresses and anxieties.

Dawn knows just how difficult it can be as a parent, as sometimes despite your worry, teenagers and young adults simply do not want to, or know how to, discuss their personal lives or problems with their families. After all, they are trying to break free and grow up, while a part of you wants to hold on. Young people have every right to keep secrets, but, as a parent, this can be very distressing. If you want your child to receive support yet feel that you are not the right person to give it to them, one solution can be to hire a coach.

Dawn does not aim to stand in as a parent, teacher, or friend. Instead, she offers impartial, trustworthy support without any judgement, giving the young person the chance to vent freely and confidentially about anything they want. This may include school, college, university, family life, friends, job-seeking struggles, stress, anxiety, or anything else that happens to be on their minds.

Dawn’s one-to-one coaching, group workshop, or e-learning program, can help young people:

  • Learn techniques to help overcome anxiety

  • Gain strategies to build self-confidence

  • Gain coping strategies for life stress, exam pressures, or performance anxiety.

  • Receive help and guidance on job searching, perfect their CV, and perform confidently in interviews

  • Understand how to set, and achieve goals

  • Discuss difficult issues

  • Grow their self-confidence and self-esteem

  • Easily let go of anxieties, doubts, and worries

  • Be relaxed with their peers, thus developing more and better friendships

  • Be far better at handling the challenges of growing up

  • Give confident presentations at school, college, university, or work. Learn life skills and thought patterns that will serve them well for decades

Benefits for parents

Life Coaching can also have a great many benefits from the perspective of a parent. While you’ll always want to be there for your children, sometimes the best thing you can do is accept that in some situations, it simply can’t be done. The fact is that some teenagers believe certain parts of their lives need to be secret and cannot be shared with their parents.

We know this can be difficult to accept. Time goes quickly and suddenly your small, innocent child is grown up and wants to discover the world. They want to explore their changing bodies, experimenting with everything that life has to offer. You can’t control the things they may encounter, and you may know that part of your role as a parent is to stand back and let them learn on their own.

How can your teenager receiving coaching sessions benefit you as a parent?

  • A coach can approach any subjects your child feels unable to talk about with you, such as relationships, friendship struggles, sexuality, and body-image issues. Even though you may not be able to help them personally, you can rest easy knowing they have someone to talk to.

  • A coach will help your child develop mature ways to deal with conflict, stress, and anger, which could potentially make family life easier.

  • Coaching can help your child to better understand the emotions they are experiencing and how to manage them. When a child appears to lash out or react aggressively, they may be battling feelings of worry or fear. Coaching helps young people understand and control their confused emotions, encouraging an easier parent-child relationship.

Next Steps

It is important to first discuss with your child the option of working with a Confidence Coach. If your child is keen to gain more confidence find out if they would prefer to work on a one-to-one basis with Dawn, in a small, safe, interactive group workshop on Zoom with a very small group of other teenagers also keen to overcome their low self-esteem and confidence issues, or privately in the comfort of their own home (perhaps with you alongside them) via the downloadable Confidence & Life Skills Learning Program. Please see above for each option, and select the relevant ‘VIEW COURSE INFORMATION’ box for more in-depth information or to sign up for their preference.

Alternatively, email to book a one-to-one coaching appointment at dawn@milestone-coaching.co.uk or telephone to discuss further, without obligation, at 01256 389600

“After graduating from university, I felt lost as to what to do next. Since having coaching, I have gained so much more confidence in myself and have a much more positive outlook on my future and what I can achieve.” Molly aged 21.

” Before life coaching with Dawn I found day to day life a huge struggle to the extent I would withdraw myself from life itself! People would tell me how unhealthy this was for me or express how going out would help to feel better, this would frustrate me as I knew everything they were saying was true I just couldn’t seem to do it, well so I told myself!! I was always aware that everybody suffers from anxiety somewhere on the spectrum but found it particularly hard to accept how high I personally was on this spectrum of worry, self doubt, frustration and so many other things I’m sure others have experienced as well. Within even the first session with Dawn, she had explained and answered a lot of my questions and talked through ways of handling my anxiety with simple but effective ways which completely and still to this day does blow my mind how simple she made them! I have had one to one coaching for roughly 3 months now and I can truly tell you I wouldn’t be the person I am today without Dawn, which is something I am very grateful for!” Becky, aged 19.

”My daughter went to see Dawn, we as a family were at a loss on how to help her! My daughter felt that she couldn’t cope with anything in day to day life! Becky (aged 19) has now seen Dawn a few times and this has helped her start a new job, go to social events and generally keep a good perspective on situations! We are so grateful to Dawn for helping her as she is so much happier now! Thank you, Dawn.” Becky’s Mum.

A letter from a Father sent to his daughter’s school after she attended Dawn’s 7-week Life Skills Programme:

”I wanted to write to you to express how valuable and enjoyable Isabelle found the Life Skills run by Milestone Coaching & Training. Her enhanced ability to put the various problems in life within a proper context has been notable. After each course, she came home with a renewed spirit of optimism, calmness and happiness.
Moreover, the enrichment to her positive thinking and self-belief, to see the world as a portfolio of possibilities, rather than problems, was of significant value.

I believe the course was highly engaging and would like to particularly recognise the efforts and professional competence of the trainer, Dawn Fiske. I would appreciate if you could pass on our thanks and recognition to both Milestone Coaching & Training and especially Dawn. May I also commend the school for offering the students this valuable opportunity to participate in such an excellent course.”
- Father of 15-year-old Isabelle

”Dawn’s life coaching has been a revelation to me. Week by week bringing together total strangers and inviting them to open up about themselves and their situations; structurally offering us her diverse breath of knowledge with an array of techniques, to support each and every one of us. I for one have fully engaged, and because of this, I now feel prepared for whatever life may throw at me either now, or in the future: from a flyby comment to an internal battle, thanks to the tools Dawn has caringly equipped me with. Real life saver. Totally worth it. Would recommend to anyone. Thank you Dawn.” - HO - 18 yrs old
